G2 expected to keep same roster for Winter Split
Following up on our previous report that indicated G2 Esports were looking to sign Massimo “Atomic” Franceschi, a new development has taken place that sees G2 no longer being the destination for the highly-touted 18-year-old.
G2 Esports are fresh off a 9th-11th place finish at the Fall Split Major and, like many other teams in the region, are attempting to construct the best roster possible with hopes of claiming a World Championship. The team was looking to replace Andres “dreaz” Jordan, but due to an unreported buyout price for Atomic and having their initial bid turned down by Team Envy, it appears that the G2 roster will remain the same for the near-future.
In its current iteration, G2 has climbed to the top three in points in the North America region. They have consistently been improving on their results every regional since the RLCS 2021-22 season has began. Starting off as 5th-8th in the North American Open, finishing 2nd during the Haunted Hallows Cup, and winning the Fall Classic. Despite the potential they’ve shown, G2 is on the hunt to do more and as quickly as possible.
This isn’t the first time that dreaz has been attempted to be replaced by the team. Despite exceeding expectations as a rookie in RLCS X, it was previously speculated during the off-season that G2 tried to obtain Jason “Firstkiller” Corral from Rogue as a replacement, before he ultimately decided to go to FaZe Clan. Now, after remaining a solid player for the start of the 2021-22 season, dreaz finds himself in a similar situation while still being expected to perform at his best for the team.
To conclude: With this recent development, Team Envy are not expected to make a change heading into the Winter Split. The destination of BeastMode, who recently had a try out for Team Envy after being close to sign with Version1, is currently unknown.
