Atomic and dreaz swap places in mutual transfer deal

With the RLCS 2021-2022 Winter Split quickly approaching, every team from top to bottom is figuring out how to start off 2022 right. Do they stick, and try to improve over time? Or would a roster change help them out more? For Envy and G2 Esports, a change could be in the works.

Massimo "Atomic" Franceschi joined Envy ahead of the Rocket League Spring Series in 2020, and has been an integral part of the team ever since. With Atomic on the roster, Envy have won four Regionals throughout RLCS X, and despite a disappointing Fall Major, they’re still near the top of NA in RLCS 2021-2022. But his days at the Machine might be numbered, if he leaves his teammates Nick "mist" Costello and Pierre "Turbopolsa" Silfver to join G2.

Atomic would be joining Jacob "JKnaps" Knapman and Reed "Chicago" Wilen on G2 Esports, which means Andres "dreaz" Jordan will be able to complete Envy’s roster. After Dillon "Rizzo" Rizzo retired last year, dreaz went from a substitute role to permanent spot on G2. With a hell of a rookie season behind him, dreaz seems ready to fill Atomic’s shoes on a new Envy squad.

Recent results might not explain why these roster moves could make sense for the teams and the players. As Heroic’s coach John "Virge" Willis explained on Twitter, roster moves are often about much more than individual performance. Personal issues and the dynamics behind the scenes often have more impact on how teams are formed.

Envy know that dreaz can prove himself when it matters most, as he played exceptionally well during the Fall Major. On G2 Esports, Atomic could help strengthen G2’s position in the top three of the North American region, and prepare the team for international success. Both Envy and G2 Esports haven’t come through at the Fall Major in the way they wanted, but we’re merely one third into the season. Both teams are in a position to think carefully about the future of their RLCS performance. A roster move can be risky, but it can pay off in the long run.
