North American Fall Open Recap
The first Regional of the season has come to a close, and FaZe Clan are the North American Fall Open champions! They finished with a 3-1 record in the Swiss Stage, losing only to G2 Esports, before going on a dominant run through Playoffs, dropping only four games en route to their title. They beat Gen.G Mobil1 Racing in the final via 4-1 scoreline, which is an impressive result for Gen.G despite the lopsided scoreline in the final series. The roster has only been able to start practicing recently after importing Jack "ApparentlyJack" Benton and Joseph "noly" Kidd from Europe, and a Grand Finals appearance this early on bodes well for the team.
A dominant performance from Jason "FirstKiller" Corral led FaZe Clan to their Regional victory, as he led all players in Octane Rating with an astonishing 1.236 over 32 games. He also paced all players in goals per game and total goals, with 1.09 and 35, respectively. On Championship Sunday alone, he notched 12 goals in 10 games to lead his team to victory.
G2 Esports and Spacestation Gaming both went out in the semifinals after posting perfect 3-0 records in the Swiss Stage, while FURIA, Shopify Rebellion, OpTic Gaming, and Version1 also all qualified for the Playoffs. The eight playoff teams have clinched spots in both of the remaining events for the Fall Split, the Fall Cup and Fall Invitational.

The other eight teams who failed to qualify for the Playoffs will be seeded into the Closed Qualifier for the Fall Cup, and compete against eight teams from the Open Qualifier to reach the main event. NRG finished 2-3 in the Swiss Stage, losing a tight fifth-round series to FURIA. Complexity Gaming started 0-2 in the Swiss Stage, and nearly reverse-swept the bracket before being reverse-swept by OpTic Gaming in the fifth round to finish 2-3. Pittsburgh Knights were the last of the 2-3 teams, having been swept by Version1 in round five.
Team AXLE, Dignitas, and Sol all managed to pick up one win before being eliminated, while Luminosity Gaming and Rogue went 0-3. All of these teams will be looking to bounce back in the Closed Qualifier, as they’re in danger of missing out on the Fall Invitational (and Major) if they can’t bounce back.
FaZe Clan, Gen.G Mobil1 Racing, G2 Esports, and Spacestation Gaming all put themselves in a strong position to qualify for the Fall Major in Rotterdam. Do you think they’ll make it? Let us know on Twitter @ShiftRLE, and make sure to keep up to date with Shift for all of your RLCS news!
