FaZe Clan set to part ways with AYYJAYY; in talks with mist
Following a 3rd-4th finish at the RLCS 2021-22 World Championship, FaZe Clan are set to part ways with Austin "AYYJAYY" Aebi and have made Nick "mist" Costello the primary target to replace the departing American.
FaZe Clan ended RLCS 2021-22 with eight 3rd-4th placements across the season
Initially, FaZe Clan opened their account in RLCS 2021-22 with a regional win and were seen as one of the strongest teams in North America. With a roster of AYYJAYY, Jason "Firstkiller" Corral and Braxton "Allushin" Lagarec they managed to come 3rd-4th at the Stockholm Fall Major. Despite this high placement, the team decided to release Allushin in January 2022 to sign Caden "Sypical" Pellegrin from Spacestation Gaming, a move that was publicized heavily as the creation of an all-American super team. While the team continued to be competitive with a 4th place finish at the Winter Major, they did not win a title till the final regional of the Spring Split in May 2022. The organization suffered its most underwhelming result of the season at the Spring Major, where the team failed to make the crowd portion of the event after a 2-3 loss to FURIA. FaZe Clan were able to end the season strong by coming 3rd-4th at the RLCS 2021-22 World Championship by beating the likes of The Club, Team Falcons and Version1 to do so.
Despite this, FaZe Clan have decided to make a change heading into the offseason by allowing AYYJAYY to leave this summer. As the final member of the initial roster that joined FaZe Clan back in March 2021, this move represents the end of an era for FaZe Clan’s early involvement in Rocket League. As a replacement, the organization have lined up mist after he became an unrestricted free agent earlier this month. The former Optic Gaming player averaged a 1.03 octane.gg rating across RLCS 2021-22 and is considered by many to be one of North America’s premium stars in the defensive third.
This move comes only three weeks after FaZe Clan brought on former Ghost Gaming and Soniqs professional Raul "Roll Dizz" Diaz as a coach. The organization will be hoping that these changes will allow the team to make that final step into a title-winning squad.
