RLCS X Featured Teams: The magnificent Magnifico
I decided I wanted back in when I saw the new format. There was much more game time, much more stuff going on, and basically just a more dedicated format. I also realised I missed competing, so I just had to get back in it. — gReazymeister
Magnifico was a promising team when it was created in April earlier this year. However, at the end of June, the roster went their separate ways to the surprise of the whole European community. After being such a force in the off-season, there was a lot of questions asked regarding the Magnifico players.
Within 3 weeks of the original disbanding of the roster, it came back to life. AtomiK (ESP), of the original roster, decided to pick up DmentZa (ESP) and a former world champion in gReazymeister in order to re-form Magnifico and they haven’t looked back since. Not only did they qualify for the first European Regional event, but they also qualified for Stage 2 with a 3–2 record in the Swiss bracket. We caught up with the roster to ask them some questions.

How did you guys end up together? Did you play a lot before the first regional tournament?
AtomiK: Some days before the deadline of the RLCS X , DmentZa and I were trying out some players when gReazy told DmentZa that he wanted to grind again. As we only had 12 days left before the qualifiers and everything, we had to grind a lot in that short time and the effort has been shown in these past couple of days.
gReazymeister: I messaged DmenZta few days before the lockout because I just decided I wanted to continue competing again and thankfully they were still looking for a third. We started playing together and ended up teaming, which I’m very happy with.
Who are you looking forward to face the most and who are you looking forward to face the least in RLCS X after making it to Stage 2?
AtomiK: I would prefer playing against Dignitas again and get revenge. If we can avoid Vitality until the final, that would be a lot better!
DmentZa: In my opinion, I’d like to face Rival Series or mid-tier RLCS teams because we play way better and are more motivated in those instances as opposed to when we face bubble teams.
gReazymeister: I’m looking forward to playing everyone, there are so many good teams these days and anyone can win, so any opponent is a opponent to respect in my eyes.
What are your team’s strengths and weaknesses? — can go as detailed as you guys want.
AtomiK: I think we have a very aggressive play style and we can sustain very good pressure on offense. On defense, we usually have a lot of mistakes which make us lose, but we are working on fixing those mistakes.
DmentZa: Our main strength is offense, sometimes we struggle when it comes to scoring, but we are able to apply a lot of pressure. Our weaknesses are basically defense and double commits, although we managed to somewhat fix them before Stage 1.
gReazymeister: We have very good pressure and are able to put together good offensive plays but sometimes our defence crumbles. That’s something we’re working on, though.
(For gReazy only) A large majority of people thought that you were finished with competitive Rocket League. What made you come back?
gReazymeister: I decided I wanted back in when I saw the new format. There was much more game time, much more stuff going on, and basically just a more dedicated format. I also realised I missed competing, so I just had to get back in it.

Having two Spanish players and one Norwegian player, does this cause any issues?
AtomiK: There have been no problems at the moment… except a lack of English sometimes!
DmentZa: Not really, although, I don’t like speaking Spanish because I don’t want gReazy to feel uncomfortable.
gReazymeister: This does not cause many issues at all, we can communicate and understand each other pretty well.
What are your goals or aim for this split and RLCS X in general
DmentZa: My goal is to make it to every single major this season and be a consistent Top 16 team in Europe.
AtomiK: My aim is to win everything we play without expectations, we can perform 3 or 4 times better in tournaments than in scrims so that makes us feel confident.
gReazymeister: We really wanna be a part of the top teams in RLCS and manage to stay there and become even better as time goes on.
Thoughts about this new Circuit style format?
Dmentza + AtomiK: I personally love it, this new format gives bubble players a chance to prove themselves against top teams regularly.
gReazymeister: The new format is very good in my opinion, as I said earlier, more games = more fun.
Between, RLCS, The Grid, and The Field, there is a lot of Rocket League going on to participate in. How do you plan to manage all these events? Is there any fear of burnout sometime down the line?
DmentZa: Unfortunately, we are not qualified for The Grid, so we are just competing in RLCS and The Field for now. From my side there’s no way I can have burnout from this game. I’ve been loving it for 8 years ever since SARPBC and I also love competing, so I don’t think I’ll ever be able to quit this game at all.
AtomiK: At the moment we think that we can manage all of them because we are already participating in 2/3. I don’t think we will burnout because we feel really motivated to play everything and also demonstrate how good we can be.
gReazymeister: I think managing it is gonna be fine, all of our team enjoys playing Rocket League, we just gotta make sure we don’t overplay it outside of tournaments so we don’t lose the spirit, but we should be fine on that front.
Any shout outs you guys want to give?
DmentZa: I want to shout out Rix Ronday for giving me the chance of scrimming with him 4 months ago and also for being a very good friend.
gReazymeister: I want to shout out my mom!
